five things part four

Wow! I'm feeling really happy that I have a blog today. So many fun things you all are reporting. Remember - if you've missed a day don't worry. As long as you have posted at least five things during this week, I'll throw your name into the drawing. I don't want to make this stressful (we have enough of that coming up this holiday season).

So, today, I'm on track. Clothes are ready to pack, camera battery charged up, kids are (semi) organized. Meghan and I take off today for Seattle CKC. I'll leave my Friday post under Pending for tomorrow.

Today I'm grateful for

Holding hands
1.  My husband Keith who never hesitates to pick up the reins around the house.

2. A Mom who lives only a mile away.

3. Homemade granola

Stitch Magazine
4. A new Stitch magazine to read on the plane

5. An excuse to use my umbrella

Take care, and be grateful.

five things part three

First off, thanks to everyone who has jumped on the thankful train. I'm loving your responses. Hey you, lurker. Jump on in for some fun and a sweet prize. Hee.

Today it starts to get a little more serious. Most of us have covered family, friends and faith. Now what? Maybe it's the smaller things that make you smile. Maybe it's something "out there". It doesn't really matter. Gratitude covers a host of people, places and things.

Today I'm grateful for

Utensils

1. A cozy kitchen to cook, bake and clean (no, really). And aren't those emoticon spoons the best? Ross Stores.

2. My blogging friends - yes, YOU!

Kesti 6
3. A job that let's me stay home 99% of the time and make crazy cute cards

4. Daughters that still like to travel with me (and I hope always will)

5. The internet (you could see that one coming)

So, what's on tap for today? Leave your list and share the gratitude.

five things part 2

Thanks for all the sweet participation, it's fun to hear about the important things in your life (big and small). Anyone can join in to play along - you can even backtrack to Monday and get in on the prize drawing.

I'm very grateful for lots of things today; Day Two is still pretty easy.
Today I'm thankful for...

Granny Square
1. A Mother-in-law who teaches me new crafts (my FIRST ever granny square)

2. My husband who makes me coffee every morning.

Giggle web
3. Capturing that exact perfect moment during a photo shoot.

4. Half price Halloween candy.

5. Pinwale corduroy.

Have a grateful day - I can't wait to hear about yours!

five things part 1

I'm posting a challenge for the week. Name five things you are grateful for. It could be five things every day; one thing per day this week...whatever floats your boat. I'm aiming for five things per day. Won't you join me?

I know we don't need to be rewarded for being grateful; but I'm going to throw out a crafty prize for those who participate everyday. Leave your answers here or link me up to your Facebook or blog and I'll throw you in the hat. Well, throw your name in anyways.

So, let's see. Day one is easy.
I'm grateful for

Peekaboo Ello

1. Babies who play Peek-a-Boo

2. New nieces and nephews (one born yesterday in Sweden; another due anyday now in Flagstaff)

3. Early church service yesterday (plus the two hour nap I snuck in after lunch)

4. Grandmas and Grandpas

5. Getting started on Christmas shopping

See? Easy. Some serious, some silly. I know you can think of at least five.
Today I'm off to take (or attempt to take) some Christmas card photos for Mark and Rachael. Wish me luck.

fall is here

Since we have now had two days in a row wherein the high temperature has nary reached 70 degrees; I officially declare it is FALL! Nice.

For those of you who don't believe that we have a change of seasons here in Arizona...I have photographic proof.

Fall
See that? Right there. It is a leaf fallen from our ash tree. Do not doubt me.

In other news, I have also started to pull out my fall-ish decorations. No, I do not have very many, but that's okay. I have a pretty cute little stash of glittery pumpkins and some gilded acorns, so I thought I would boost the look with a papercrafted pumpkin.

Glitter Pumpkin
You like? I made the pumpkin out of cardstock, then I use some Basic Grey rub ons for the leaves (applied the rubs to cardstock, cut them out and added glitter) and a bit of craft wire for the vine. Easy, but it has a "wow" factor because of the glitter. Overall size is around 6 X 6 if you want to try this yourself.

Happy Fall!

toy review

Have I made you wait long enough? AN-TI-CI-PAYAAA-TION. Okay, just kidding. But, I'm excited to share the product I chose to review from All Modern. The site is really cool, especially if you are a fan of the modern/scandinavian touch. All Modern is kind of a collection of different sites all under one roof. Sort of like an all modern mall. Cool.

So, after browsing through all the Toys I chose the fantastic Bilibo Play Shell. I got an orange one and a green one. Happy Days. Okay, you can probably already tell how I feel about this toy by the giveaway "fantastic" adjective in that last sentence, right? Right.

This toy was designed in Switzerland and has that look of a classic. It's rated for ages 2-7 and that's exactly accurate. Eloise (20 months) will enjoy it even more in another six months or so, and Harrison (age 8) is slightly too tall and heavy (although he successfully spins around in this thing like nobody's business). I think a few photos will tell the true story.

Review 1
On a smooth surface (inside or out) Eloise rocks and spins easily.

Review 4
On grass this guy serves as a nice seat for herself and her animal friends.

Review 6

Flipped over Bilibo becomes a chair at the perfect height for reading.

Review 3
Or a game of peek-a-boo.

Review 5

Or a platform to practice balancing.

Review 2
It's easy to carry around, stack and offers tons of creative play possibilities. This toy has become an integral part of the arsenal around our house and we've only had in a week.

Overall, I'd give this toy a A+. I really feel that good about it.
Boy, I think I could do this more often - hee, hee.

Let's hear your opinion about my review. What's on you hot list for Christmas this year? I'm especially interested in hearing about unique and fun things for boys, age 8. And, no Legos, please.

swap mania

The cards I received at the Paper Crafts Card Swap last Friday night were so impressive that I decided I must share. I picked a few of my absolute favorites, but I have to say, they were ALL fantastic. Not many of the cards were signed; I'm sorry I can't identify all the designers. In any case, here's some eye candy to start your Tuesday off right...

CSwap 1

That first Christmas card doesn't show properly in this photo, but the embossing is lovely and the reindeer is also embossed and has glittery horns. I love the way the wedding card on the right opens.

CSwap 2

The details on these two Thank You cards are amazing -lots of layers and hand coloring.

CSwap 3
Two baby cards that just stood out - the first is richly embossed with a cute peek-a-boo window and the shaped card is simply fun and cute!

CSwap4

This one deserved a large photo - it's so beautifully inked and well done.
Bravo to all the girls in my class! I took an informal poll and about 75% of the class had NEVER swapped before. Imagine. I think they are well on their way.

Good times with the All Modern toy review tomorrow. Eloise has helped me out - you must tune in even if it's just to see all the cute photos! Hee, hee.

slo mo

I guess that's me today - in slow motion. I arrived home from St. Paul last night around eight o'clock. We had about a half hour delay leaving, then we sat on the plane for another half hour AFTER we landed because they couldn't seem to get the jetway over to the airplane door. Sigh.

But, I'm happy to be home and happy to report that the trip was awesome. Here's a rundown of the weekend's events.

  • Super fun classes at convention
  • A Really (yes, capital letter) successful card swap
  • Dinner at Perkin's (haven't been there in years!)
  • Had my Editor In Chief as slave labor in most of my classes (hee)
  • A super fly dinner with Megan at Pop! Restaurant
  • Watched the snow gently fall while sipping a vanilla latte
  • Drove over an hour to Rockford church, then to Jennifer's
  • Had a really quick mini visit with some friends at church Sunday
  • An awesome lunch with Jen at Three Squares Restaurant

What can I say? Lots of laughs, great students, great co-teachers...it was one of those weekends where everything just works. I'm going to take photos of the card swap cards and post them tomorrow, so check back, eh?

the seven step program

No, it's not rehab (although heaven knows we are addicted to our supplies). It's a seven step program for creating "card swap" cards. Yep, tonight I'll be swapping cards with a class full of enthusiastic women in St. Paul, Minnesota. Fun! And one will be my Editor in Chief, the awesome Miss Jennifer (um, Mrs.).

So, I thought it would be fun to share my steps. A couple weeks ago I gave you some tips for card swapping - now here's the actual low down on how I so those steps.

Step One: Create your card blanks (20 in my case)

CS 1
In this scenario I found a pack of twenty envelopes in my stash that were four different shades of green. I imagine I picked them up last year at an after Christmas clearance. So, I made twenty plain white cards and then added a solid cardstock to match each envelope (five light green, five grass green, five lime green and five dark green).

Step Two: Stamp your embellishment.

CS 2

The green had me started on a Christmas theme, so I used this adorable little elf stamp from Odd Bird Planet.

Step Three: Color stamp to match cardstock.

CS 3
I only customized the color of the little coat - the rest of the stamped pieces were colored the same.

Step Four: Finish embellishments.

CS 4
This was actually a two step process, I finished coloring them in, then added the red glitter to the little hats.

Step Five: Assemble embellishments with punched cardstock.

CS 5
Simple step - all done in an assembly line.

Step Six: Add last touches of ribbon, etc. I also stamped my sentiment at this time.

CS 6

Step Seven: (this one's a gimme) Admire your work.

CS 7

I hope the swappers like these cards.

Shivering from St. Paul....Later.
